About Brian Maiz

Someone who stays
long after you're enrolled.

I'm a Southern California native and U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Iwakuni, Japan, and Cherry Point, North Carolina. After my military service, I raised my family in North Carolina before returning home to Oceanside, where I've lived for more than a decade.

For more than 20 years at Cisco Systems, I built my career by listening first, solving problems, and making complex information easy to understand. That's the same philosophy I bring to Medicare.

I believe choosing a Medicare plan shouldn't feel like a sales pitch. My job is to explain your options clearly, answer your questions honestly, and help you make the decision that's right for you — even if that means recommending a plan that pays no commission.

My relationship with clients doesn't end after enrollment. Every year, I review coverage during Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period, help resolve billing and claims issues, and make sure my clients always have someone they know and trust to call. When you call, you'll speak with me — not a call center.

My goal is simple: to earn your trust, not just your business.

Every Medicare situation
is a little different.

Whether you're enrolling for the first time or reviewing coverage you already have, I compare options across multiple carriers so you know exactly what you're getting — and why.

Medicare Basics & Education

Parts A, B, C, and D explained without the jargon. You'll understand exactly what Medicare covers, what it doesn't, and what decisions to make before you turn 65.

Medicare Supplement Plans

Medigap plans work alongside Original Medicare to cover costs it leaves behind. You keep freedom to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, anywhere in the country.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Advantage bundles hospital, medical, and often drug coverage into one plan. I compare what's available in your area so you know exactly what you're signing up for.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Part D plans vary widely in cost and coverage. I run your specific medications through available plans to find one that keeps your prescriptions affordable.

Annual Plan Reviews

Plans change every year. Each fall during Open Enrollment, I review your coverage to make sure your plan still fits your health and your budget.

Dental, Vision & Ancillary

Medicare doesn't cover most dental, vision, or hearing. I help you find stand-alone plans to fill those gaps without paying for things you don't need.

Most brokers disappear
after enrollment.
I don't.

Truly independent

I work with multiple carriers and have no quota with any of them. My only loyalty is to finding what actually fits you — not what's easiest to sell.

Plain language, always

Medicare has its own vocabulary. I translate it. You'll leave every conversation knowing what you signed up for and exactly why.

Available year-round

Open Enrollment, a billing question in February, or a plan issue in July — I pick up, and I know who you are when you call.

Veteran-level commitment

The discipline I brought to the Marine Corps is how I approach every client relationship. Fully present, every time, for the long term.

Getting clear on your Medicare
in three conversations.

One
We Talk

Tell me about your health, your doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget. I listen before I suggest anything. Most first calls take about 20 minutes.

Two
I Do the Research

I compare plans across multiple carriers in your area and come back with a clear breakdown in plain English. No homework required on your end.

Three
You Choose. I Stay.

You pick the plan that fits — no pressure, no rush. I handle the paperwork, then stay on for the long term: annual reviews, billing questions, and plan changes whenever life shifts.

Medicare runs on deadlines.
Here's when they matter.

Unlike most insurance, you can't sign up whenever you feel like it. Four windows govern nearly every Medicare decision — missing the wrong one can mean a permanent penalty or a coverage gap.

IEP — Initial Enrollment
The 7 months around your 65th birthday

Your first and most important window. Miss it without qualifying coverage elsewhere and you'll face a lifelong premium penalty.

AEP — Annual Enrollment
October 15 – December 7, every year

Switch Advantage plans, move between Advantage and Original Medicare, or change your Part D drug plan. Changes take effect January 1.

OEP — Open Enrollment
January 1 – March 31, every year

If you're already on a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one switch — to a different Advantage plan, or back to Original Medicare.

SEP — Special Enrollment
Triggered by life events, usually a 60-day window

Move, lose other coverage, or hit another qualifying life event and a special window opens — usually about 60 days to act.

!

SEP windows are strict and easy to miss. If a qualifying life event just happened to you, reach out right away — waiting even a few weeks can mean losing the window entirely.

The conversations
that matter most.

Medicare questions deserve real answers.

If yours isn't here, reach out. Every situation is a little different and I'm happy to talk it through with no obligation.

Ask a Question
How much does it cost to work with you?

Nothing. My services are completely free to you — carriers compensate me directly, and it's the same whether you enroll through me or on your own.

Do you only offer certain plans?

No. I'm independent and work with multiple carriers, so I compare what's actually available in your area and recommend what fits you — even if it pays me nothing.

When should I start looking at Medicare?

About three months before you turn 65, during your Initial Enrollment Period. If you're already enrolled, the fall Annual Enrollment Period is the time to review.

What if I already have a plan?

I'll review it with you at no cost. Plans change every year, and a quick check often finds better coverage or lower prescription costs.

Will I actually be able to reach you later?

Yes. You'll have my direct line, and when you call, you'll speak with me — not a call center — for as long as you're a client.

Ready to make Medicare
make sense?

No obligation, no rush, no pressure — just a real conversation about where you stand and what your options are.
